Abstract
This research was developed to qualify for the Master's degree in Metropolitan Environmental Management from the University of Buenos Aires. The objective was to analyze the processes of generation of green areas of two popular urban settlements in the city of Caracas, as an input for metropolitan planning and management. For this, an applied and exploratory research was carried out, with a mixed character.
The green areas referred to here are those located near the homes, with equipment for passive activities, recreation and recreation. The popular urban settlements are those located within the city, self-constructed with precarious materials, with conflicts of legitimacy of the land, limit in the coverage of services and inhabited by people with limited resources.
As a result, it was determined that the favorable perception of social actors regarding green areas and the vocation and commitment of community workers, drives their request, however, where there is no support from local governments, the generation process is difficult; Lastly, the existence of community organizations created together with the pressure they exert on local governments, as well as the existence of planning instruments for these sectors, facilitate the generation of green areas.
